What Luck Betide Us
The hútayár (“curse-blooded” in Elven) are elves of cursed lineage. The origins of the hútayár are unclear, but it is known that they are drinkers of blood and thieves of soul-essence. The curse-blooded are suspected of many sorcerous abilities, such as syphoning the life-force of others, turning into beasts, and possibly even the ability to pass the curse to others. Despite the similarities to vampires, hútayár typically do not have any aversion to sunlight as many vampires do, and they occupy a queer twilight state between the living and the undead — they cannot be turned by clerics, for example.
The hútayár are nearly indistinguishable from normal elves, although astute observers may notice their fangs.
